Tyler Thompson of the UK sports site KSR wrote an interesting piece about the Kentucky Wesleyan squad that lost to the University of Kentucky on Friday in an exhibition game at Rupp Arena. The two teams met up way back in February 1918 in a game that resulted in the only tie in the history of the Owensboro school.
There are two reasons this bit of news is interesting. First of all, ties in basketball are extremely rare — impossible, by today’s rules. The way the tie came about in this game makes for a fascinating read.
And the other reason is that the 1918 game was played right here in Winchester, at the home of KW at the time. And a local newspaper was none too happy about the outcome!
