Leeds Summer Programs Offer Opportunites for Youth

Leeds Center for the Arts is proud to offer two new camps this summer. SPARK, the new children’s education program at Leeds, is great for young people interested in singing, dancing, or acting. Taught by some of Central Kentucky’s premier teaching artists, students will have the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of performance opportunities.

SPARK Summer Camps at Leeds

Beginning June 6, the Musical Theatre Intensive is perfect for young people looking to sharpen their skills in singing, dancing, and acting. This fast-paced, two-week program is for students ages 12 to 18. Taught by Steve Crosby and Ellie Miller, students will work to put on a full-scale musical theatre revue featuring songs from favorite Broadway Hits.

Students will also have the opportunity to work with guest artists in master classes throughout the camp, including Bo List (AthensWest Theatre Company), Susie Thiel (University of Kentucky Department of the Theatre and Dance), Emily Norris (Stage Combat Professional), and Ron Wilbur (Vocal and Acting Professional.) This camp runs June 6 — 17, with a performance on the evening of June 17.

Do you know a young person who was born for the stage? The Aristocats Kids Performance Workshop is for them! Students will put on a full production in just two weeks. They will have the opportunity to audition for a role, learn musical skills, learn choreography, and come together and create an amazing show! This camp will be directed by Esther Neal, with music direction by Kelli Jo Crawford and choreography by Kieshaun Butts. This two-week day camp for ages 7–12 runs June 20 — July 1, with performances on the evenings of July 1 and 2.

Registration and more information for both of these camps can be found on the Leeds website, www.leedscenter.org.
