Six shows to be presented over next two weekends
Beginning next weekend, the marquee at Winchester’s Leeds Center for the Arts will again be lit up for a live production.
“Into the Woods Jr.” is an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s Tony Award-winning musical retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables. It’s an engaging and funny musical comedy that twists familiar fairy tales into a brand new story, featuring all of your favorite characters — Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk), and the Witch.
The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse, and wind up changed forever.
The cast of the production includes the following young actors from all over Central Kentucky.
The Broadway production on which Into the Woods Jr. is based won several Tony Awards, including Best Score, Best Book, and Best Actress in a Musical.
Leeds will present six performances of Into the Woods Jr. over the two weekends of February 25–27 and March 4–6. Friday and Saturday shows start at 7 p.m., while the Sunday matinees start at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.
Face masks and proof of vaccination or a negative test result within 48 hours of the show are required for these shows, per Leeds COVID-19 policy.
